LARP is ‘Live-Action Role Playing’. You create a character, make a costume that fits their personality, and act out their adventures in the fantasy world of the Jade Empire. Your fellow players will be doing the same with their characters, and your interactions will be the basis of a new storyline and a new legend! It’s interactive theatre at its best, storytelling live, and is imaginative, social, and fun.
The GMs (Game Masters) are in control of how a LARP runs; they create the storylines, direct the crew, and set goals and objectives for players. The crew are the GM’s helpers. They play NPCs (Non-Player Characters): the monsters, and all kinds of local people and personalities. The local blacksmith and the biggest monster of all might be played by the same person, but are completely different characters!
IC / OOC
There is a distinction of IC (In-Character) and OOC (Out-Of-Character). The two should never cross over; if you learn something about the game OOC, your character should not know it. To do so is giving your character an unfair advantage.
Please don’t cheat. You’re only spoiling your own and others’ experience of the game: there is nothing to be gained from it. There are no ‘winners’ or ‘losers’ - the point of LARP is the experience and the story being told, not who killed the most monsters or has the biggest sword. Don’t take things personally; the crew aren’t doing this because they don’t like you… it’s their job as NPCs. When the game is over, everyone is just normal people like you, however evil or treacherous their character was in-game.
SAFETY FIRST
Accidents and injuries can really spoil a game - so keep everyone's safety in mind. The GMs, crew, and organisers will do their best to prevent any accidents occurring, but will not accept liability should it occur. Please adhere to the principle of 'Safety First'.
